In reply to Jonathan.

Jonathan,
Excellent question! I have been working on a poster for notes = Frequencies. Hope to have that out soon.
And the idea of how does loudness "feel" is an interesting question. I can share a couple of thoughts to go by.
20db is a quiet office space or even a studio.
65 dB is conversataion.
85dB is driving on the highway with your window rolled down.
115dB us a loud rock concert.
And 125-150dB is the Space Shuttle taking off!

Cheers!

Great work again, much appreciated. Is there any kind of diagram showing which notes have which freqs or how loud what db settings actually feel? Well, those are two questions at once sorry for that. XD

Keep rockin'!

In reply to Pat Autrey.

Thanks Pat!
You are absolutely right! Reference tracks are a huge help. Though at the same time I remember that when I started mixing I would try so hard to make my mix match the music I was referencing and totally mess up a good thing. That can be equally treacherous!
Use references to set your sense of balance when you are mixing, and then just do your best.
Acknowledge your mix for who it is.
Cheers!

Great info Lij! One thing that I have to constantly remind myself of is to reference my mixes with professional recordings. It's so easy to mix in a vacuum when you're buckled down and excited to craft a cool project - and when I neglect to compare what I've done in a mix to good reference tracks, I usually wind up having to go back and make lots of tweaks that should have been accomplished already. Now my mix template has a couple of dedicated tracks right at the top for reference songs, so that this vital step is staring at me as soon as I begin a new project, and hopefully prevents me from overlooking it - again! Keep rockin'...
